Paper Photo Decluttering
Keep or Toss?
By identifying categories upfront, when you find a photo that falls into these categories, you know it’s a toss. This helps decision-making fatigue so you can accomplish more in the time you have.
Duplicates
One of the easiest for the “toss” question. If you think someone might appreciate the duplicates, pass them on. Just avoid creating another project. You have permission to let go.
“Almost” Duplicates
Like duplicate photos these are photos that all capture essentially the same special moment in time or object. We all have them. Just one or two will do.
Unflattering Photos
Think to yourself, is this a photo you want passed down for future generations to make fun of?
Scenery Pictures
Not everyone will agree on this. If you’re into photography or nature, then keep your stash. For others, keep your favorites of people with the gorgeous scenery in the background.
Underexposed, Overexposed, Blurry
Even a big life event poorly captured is a “toss”, especially if there are others with better quality. If you can’t make out the subjects’ faces, it needs to go.
Poorly Composed
Photos of feet to the back of someones’ head should just make sense.
Distant Subjects
Subjects that look like ants in the distance will never be great…let them go.
Your Ex
Maybe decide to keep photos of people who you have fond memories of, while removing photos that represent bad relationships from your past – you decide.
People You Don’t Know
Who are these people? If you’re yourself asking that question, toss.
